Robert Powell, M. Ed., has an overall goal in education to impact change—in both student self-efficacy and school culture. Mr. Powell has been an educator since 2005, when he began his career teaching at Urban Pathways Charter school. Among his teaching accomplishments were: the development of the Math and Science curriculum for 6th-8th graders; technology integration; and promotion to middle school lead teacher. He was also recognized as a Keystone Technology Educator. Mr. Powell then moved to the elementary school in an administrative role as the Supervisor of Student Services, where he created a school-wide student motivation program. While he improved school performance, his family relationship-building was another key accomplishment.
In 2015 he joined Propel schools as the Assistant Principal at Northside, he demonstrated his ability to decrease discipline, increase student achievement and positively impact the school environment. In his current role as Lead Principal at Homestead, he utilizes the motto, “Excellence Every Day” to work towards his mission to make this first Propel location one of the best schools in Allegheny County. He is cognizant that all constituents contribute to a strong, positive school culture—students, staff, leaders and parents. In succeeding a long-time principal at Homestead, he has built strong and mutually respectful relationships with K-8 students, parents, staff, peers, community, corporate and other external partners. At the same time, he has implemented new programming, enhanced academics and provided for meaningful, 21st Century opportunities for his students. One example is establishing a new positive behavior program, Teamology, through a university partner.
