Activity – 8th – Harper
Harper’s Hints for Helping Yourself
There’s an old saying that you can’t help others before you are able to help yourself. Although that may not be entirely true, it is important for students to understand the value of taking care of yourself. When we take care of ourselves physically (body), mentally (brain/thinking), and emotionally (feelings), it makes it that much easier to help others. It’s important for students to understand that when you take care of yourself, you are helping to keep your body, brain, and feelings healthy. These things can be connected, too. When you are keeping your body healthy by eating well and exercising, then your brain works better! When you are taking care of your brain and your thoughts, you are feeling happier and more content.
Harper provides a list of hints for ways students can help themselves. Use the Harper’s Hints for Helping Yourself worksheet for this lesson. Be sure to review the connections between the three areas with your students.
